Laundry Porn – Creating an UBER Laundry

You know the ads where the dude stands back looking at his new Colorbond  roof and just viewing the beauty of it. Well I do the same with the hooks I’ve put around the house. I seriously stand in wonder at how I have placed random hooks to make life easier and more organized. Pathetic yes but if you know how utterly disorganised EVERY other part our lives are, you will appreciate that we have to take it one little step at a time. The joy you get from placing a dust pan and broom back in the same place every single time can bring indescribable happiness in an other wise cluttered world where toddlers want to destroy your spirit / life / house / possessions /fridge/ glassware / tupperwear / every bloody thing.

I love a project and I’ve been without a major project since December so I’m graduating from placing removable hooks everywhere and am now making a mental plan to renovate the laundry. The Big Guy has plans to turn one of our garages into a gym but I have other plans………the UBER laundry.

Given the amount of time you spend in a laundry, it’s amazing we don’t make them a bigger and more comfortable working space. How many times have you tripped over washing baskets, dirty clothes, random socks not to mention just chucking EVERYTHING that doesn’t actually have a place into that random corner in the laundry.  Please tell me I’m not the only one.

I’ve calculated, 5 kids plus the big guy and very little chance that any cherubs will  want to leave home much before they’re 25, we have at least 24 years of EPIC clothes washing to do. At 10 loads per week and 11 or 12 if I’m on the footy jersey roster that is AT LEAST 12,480 loads of washing over the coming 24 years. That’s approximately 260 full days in time or 8 months straight (if anyone is working this out, do not judge if my maths brain has let me down, I do not do maths).  Even with our mammoth 2 x 10kg washing machines that is a lot of time to be cramped into an all too small cluttered room folding, ironing and being washing’s bitch.

So the wish list for the extended laundry is as follows

– 7 x separate areas for the kids shoes uniforms, bags, hats and school related crap
– 7 x separate areas for hanging washing for kids and folded washing
– Laundry shute from upstairs straight to laundry
– TV and sofa (TV to watch when ironing uniforms whilst SITTING on sofa)
– A thousand overhead cupboards
– 2 x 10kg washing machines 2 x 8kg dryers (sorted already)
– 15 metres (at least) of internal hanging space
– Wall clock – to ensure I don’t love it too much and forget how long I’ve been in there.

So I present you with the research thus far. Keen to hear anyone else’s great organisational  ideas for the best laundry in the world ever.

Does anyone have any practical ideas that I can include in my uber laundry?
